A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi. is there a good source for a electric schematic for a 1982 gs 750l? is there any differences in schematics through the different models and years on the 750?
can anyone say what the two cables on the picture is in the meantime? red/white and green/white. if the statorcables are all yellow, is it likely then not a oem stator?

just bought the bike. 27t km, quite nice, feel happy so far:-)

Welcome to the forum. Please find the GS Owners Forum and make a new thread introducing yourself and your bike(s). If you can’t see my signature, get into your settings and turn them on. While you’re there create a signature of your own. It’s nice to have at least a first name and what year/model of GS you have.

As to your electrical question: Someone has replaced the stator with a new one and eliminated the headlamp loop that the original wiring used. That’s generally a good thing. You can read more about that loop, why it was there, why it should be eliminated and how in the Charging System Sorted thread in my signature (among many other threads on this site ). There you can read about the other part of your charging system theat fails along with the stator, the Regulator/Rectifier (R/R), why it fails, how to test it and your stator output, and why the Shindengen SH775 is the preferred replacement R/R among GS owners.

The 82 750 L shares the 16 valve engine with many models from the early 80s (including mine). The Factory service manual for the 750 16 valve bikes is on BikeCliffs website (link in my signature) top section, middle column. See GS 750 (16 valve….) about in the middle of the middle column. You will find your specific wiring diagram in that book. The various models covered within have just slightly different diagrams (in B&W) but most parts and all colors are common throughout the series. You may also find an incredibly useful color wiring in the right column on that site. Bookmark That site. You’ll refer to it often.
