    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Another starting problem question, sorry.

If my GS650GT has been left for a week or more, she is a pig to start, I pull the choke out, press the button and she fires into life, then she dies and it takes ages to get her going again.
If I go to start her today, after I started her up a couple of days ago, I pull the choke out, press the button and she fires up and runs sweet.
She has got a new battery, carbs have been stripped and cleaned (new 'O' rings fitted as well), pistons re-ringed and cylinders honed, new valve stem seals and valve shims checked (130-140psi compression). New R/Regulator, new spark plugs (all 4 are a mid brown colour), stock Air Filter, Motad 4-1 exhaust, new fuel & vacuum lines as well as pet-cock re-build (tank clean and their was no deposits on the internal pet-cock filter).

Before I try to start her after she has been standing should I put the fuel tap to prime for 30seconds, then start her and switch the tap back, would this work/cause any problems?

Often when I have left my bike for a few weeks/months I put it on prime for about 20 seconds.

I don't usually have that much fuel loss from the bowls in that short a time, but as said, "that is what PRIme is for". :D

Turn it to PRIme while donning your helmet, start the bike, put the petcock back to RUN, then ride.

How fast it evaporates depends a lot on the climate and the fuel formulation.

Thanks for the info. Learn something new everyday. Now, can I leave her alone for over a week to try this out, probably not. Mind you I am fitting new brake lines, replacing the fork oil and painting the calipers next weekend as its a bank holiday, mind you I have not told the wife yet, she might have an idea what I have got planned though as she bought me the brake lines :o
