Other than th PO leaving it there.....there isn't a reason.....

Wow

That's insane! That could've made a real mess of things if it wasn't wedged right there... what's to bet the PO left it sitting on the chain and it got flung there? All I can say is wow...

You might want to check your clutch pushrod is still straight after that too.

And looks like your rear sprocket's teeth are a little on the pointy side as well...

I was very surprised how much meat was left on my rear drum breaks as well, they seem to last quite a while. Just one thing when you're reassembling, give the surface of the drum lining a good scuff with 100 or 200 or so grit sandpaper to break up and glaze, and do the same for the pads. Wear gloves and a dust mask because it's likely there is asbestos in the pads.

Yea.....I just started shaking my head.....does the pushrod just pull out or is something holding it in..........and i have a new chain along with front and rear sprockets just waiting to be put on .........oh well I got another wrench....lol at least its a useful size....10mm

So that's where wrenches go when you drop them and can't find them!
A 10mm.! whodda thunk.
These bikes should come with a 10 mm. (or two. in case you drop one and can't find it)

Bruce.

Not 100% sure on the 425 but you may need to do something with the clutch under the rigth cover to get it out.

The early 450's had a single piece that required you to pull the clutch but in the middle of the series of 80 - 82 they swapped to a 2 piece meaning the left hand side of the pushrod comes out without touching the clutch.

Glad to hear you've got your new chain and sprockets ready too, and 10mm is very useful :D

Well the part of the pushrod I can see looks ok so I'm gonna leave it alone........

Today I got the rear tire mounted up....changed the rear sprocket......put the headlight back together and on the bike.....reattached the instrument cluster....took the carbs off to be cleaned......and did some painting.......

It seems like there is two throttle cables?.....why

Also I found that the front brake fluid reservoir is leaking:(.....

Two throttle cables? I only have one on mine... is that two at the carb end or two at the throttle end? Some of the larger bikes with different carbs have two throttle cables so that when you close the throttle it forces the butterflies on the carbs shut...

As to the leaking master cylinder, you should be able to get a genuine piston and cup set from Boulevard Suzuki or similar for about $20 or less. The aftermarket kits are reportedly not as good as the genuine ones.

well i already ordered a new aftermarket assembly so i guess ill try it and save the old one to rebuild if it doesnt work out.....

it appears that there is two seperate throttle cables the whole way from the carbs to the throttle grip...it looks like one opens and one closes it....

not sure, but could one cable be for the choke and the other for throttle ?

never mind, just reread your post, both cables are on the throttle....

hmmmm

yea thats what i thought at first too but the choke is a lever directly on the carbs...i will investigate further....if anyone has any other info on the matter it would be appreciated....

Here's the pic....

The cables attach in both of those holes....
I also looked at it closer and the cables work opposite of each other....one pushes and one pulls when you twist the throttle....

Think of it as a redundant safety system, There is the cable to open it, there is also a spring to snap it shut. If the spring breaks you are in all sorts of trouble if there isn't a return cable to close her back up again.

Got my J.I.S. screwdrivers today.....all I can say I wow......a big difference ....if you don't have them......get them.....they really help.....

Haven't touched the bike much this week....been ordering stuff though.....front brake pads.....intake boots......also am waiting on some other parts to arrive......getting the plastic pieces sanded down to paint them....
