520 Sprocket to fit GS sprocket carrier

I use a 520 set on the 750 for added tyre clearance. I currently run a 16 x 42 & am thinking of going up a little on the rear to give low down torque. I would rather go up on the rear than down on the front as

Can anyone tell me what bike has a 520 chain & the same 100mm PCD 6 bolt fixing (inner hole dia 76mm) same as the GS?

Would I be looking at an older GSXR maybe? Katana?

The set I have now came from Z1 but I asked them about other size availability without much success so far so thought I'd start some research of my own.

The JT catalogue is pretty good but I just need some hints on the right search terms... http://www.jtsprockets.com/52.0.html

I ran the 16/42 as I also have the 5.5" rear wheel with 170 tyre but I think the gearing is a little high (certainly higher than stock as when I was running with a completely stock bike this summer I had longer range than him even though I am running a Stage 3 DJ kit, pipe, pods etc).

I am thinking of trying a 44 or 45 tooth rear next.

Vortex 525A 520 conversion rear sprocket
    90-95 GSXR750
    97-2002 GSF1200 Bandit

AFAM also make a 520 conversion sprocket for those bikes.

I couldn't find anything US Spec that came stock with a 520 that will fit a GS.. The UK DR750 had a 520 that will fit..

All these bikes came with a 530 with 100mm PCD and 76mm ID so a 520 conversion for one of them should fit

Best bets I'd say are the GSXR 750, GSXR1100, GSF1200 and the RF900R

Dan, if you give Sprocket Specialists a call, they should be able to answer your question. Their # is 800-782-8200. Ray.

Anybody know how much additional diameter +1 tooth adds to a rear sprocket?

Trying to work out how much further forward the wheel has to be for a +3 teeth with same length chain.

Looks like I'm running a 2.60 as opposed to a stock 3.07. With the Tyre height being 102mm instead of the stock 108mm prob explains why I think it's a bit slow off the mark!

Got this from a post on ADV rider:

A lot of people get confused about how much the rear axle will move with different sprockets on there. It's easy enough to figure out. The distance between the pins of one chain link is 5/8 of an inch. Adding one tooth on either sprocket moves the rear axle forward by 1/4 of that or 5/32". Going one tooth less moves the rear axle back by 5/32".

Would work for a 520,525 or 530 chain. Is it correct though?? That's 4mm for each extra tooth which seems like a lot to me

                  This from ThumperTalk... looks promising:

                  The two rules of thumb:

                  +/- 1 sprocket tooth = +/- 5/32" change in distance between axles

                  +/- 2 chain links = +/- 5/8" change in distance between axles

applied to your other bikes will get you in the ballpark. There's about 0.3mm average error in the "1 tooth = 5/32" one, which means you may have to tweak chain slack adjustment, but is accurate enough for anything else.

I have a 16t jt sprockets 520 front brand new if you want it. I used a PBI one in the end as it had extra thickness in the middle which was useful for me.

Not sure what I am going to end up at. Might try the 45 or 46 rear and then if still want lower go for the 15 front but I think it should be ok.

If I go with a 45t rear & ultimately end up going with a 15f instead of the 16 am I going to have issues?
I read something that said having multiples (i.e. 3 x 15 = 45) is not a good idea as it accelerates wear & can increase vibration.

Posting for reference here, & to keep this old thread's wealth of knowledge alive.

I was running 3.50x18 rear rims and 140/70-18 rear tires, but when I bought a set of Sun rim GS1000 wheels that had the more expensive less common 150/70-18 rear tire, I found my preference leaning towards the more appropriate looking meatiness of the 150/70 (taller tire), which makes my chain on the GS750 very close.
On the flipside, the 140/70-18 is lighter and has a shorter sidewall height, so it will rob less hp and corner with less flex, as well as grip about the same as a 150 installed on a 3.50 (vs a 4.00x18).

I'll also be putting a 140/70-18 on a GS425 489cc with a narrowed GS1100E swingarm. The narrower engine with GS1000/750 rear wheel will require a narrower chain and maybe a GS550 sprocket carrier as well as some offsetting of front sprockets. This is where it gets tricky for me, 520 conversion front in an offset sprocket. Sounds like a call to Sprocket Specialists unless anyone can point me in the right direction. I'll have to compare the GS425 output shaft splines vs my spare 750 engines to see if it's that simple.

I've been running a SuperSprox Stealth 530 48t rear which I LOVE, aluminum center steel outer teeth ring. Vortex 17t front, loved the drilled holes in it to lighten it.if only I could get those in offsets...

SuperSprox will make the Stealth in any custom configuration, even cut your own designs into the aluminum center!
