    Painting a "Rolling Chassis"

    Well thanks to my temper and unmoving conviction to being a stand up man, I got a little time off to get the 73 TX750 cleaned up. As you may all know, the engine is out of the frame for a top end refreshing and this is the perfect time to Simple Green everything and get the frame cleaned. Then the OH CRAP stuff begins. Once the grease and filth ( some place 1/4 inch thick ) was off I found lots of chipped and missing paint. So some sanding and feathering was in order. Then I use my old aluminum foil trick to mask off all the non painted stuff then get to business. Heres some pics of the process.

      Welcome back!

      Cool he way the foil works, I like it. Looks a lot easier to handle than paper and tape.

        Aluminum foil masking material wow brilliant idea never thought of it.

          You can tape overlapping edges if you want. Just roll the edges in and aorund things like the shock coils and 95% of the time it will cling to the contours as you wrap it all up.

            PS....dont be in a hurry to remove the foil...let it dry overnight so you dont scratch the skimmed over soft paint!!!!!

                Hey, glad to see another builder using the foil method. Works great and IS much easier to work with than paper and tape. Still gotta use tape though.

                          The PO had put these highway bars on across the frame and it was sitting on top of my headers. He bolted it directly to the frame and indented it. While I was getting ready to change out my pipes I decided to sand, bondo, and paint. Don't why I didn't think of aluminum foil, I did use alot of Wal-Mart bags though.

                            Nice job. Yeah, I'll use plastic bags too, if need be. Very ghetto, but it has it's usefulness. Hey, when your shoestring budget doesn't even allow for the cost of the shoestring, you improvise!

                              Yeah, but the plastic bags are less prone to tearing plus you won't get bleedthrough.
