    gs550 wiring loom

Hi Ive just brought a 1980 gs550 that was restored and put in a museum for 10years approx and never started. My bike has points some one has piggybacked a old British style rectifier to the Suzuki one.does this model have only the rectifier i see the early ones have a regulator also. they had also hooked up the earth wires to the starter solenoid so when i went to start it i had a small melt down.when i turn the key on the only thing that comes up on the dash is 5 on the gear indicator .the bike cranks starts i only run it on easy start to see if it would go and it did.I would like a wiring diagram please this fault was there before i try ed to start it and when you turn on the indicators the 3 and 5 flash but the indicators don't any help would be appreciated. There is no neutral light oil light thanks GRAHAM

    Welcome Graham.

If you haven't found it already, the full factory manual is here: http://zeus.mtsac.edu/~cliff/storage..._77-82_all.pdf

By 1980, Suzuki were using a combined regulator/rectifier. It's a well-documented weakpoint, and frequently fails, leading to other problems. There are countless threads on here about it - a search will turn up a day's worth of reading.

When it comes to checking your charging system, search for any post by member 'posplayer', and follow the links in his signature.

There are clearly problems with the wiring. I haven't yet found a clear diagram online, so I bought one of these: http://kojaycat.co.uk/epages/9500004...22SUZ0113/1%22

Would be great to see some photos.
