77 KZ 650B1 turn signals question

Took a 20 mile ride after installing the pumpers back on..had to order the rebuild kit. Anyway, I noticed both the turn signal indicators inn the dash stay lit. They blink when i turn on the signal but sty on after i recenter the switch. Im thinking this is NOT normal. Any insights????

I had this exact issue on a 1978 KZ650 last year.

I'll spare you the full saga, but it turned out that there was a broken ground wire in the harness leading up to the handlebars. There are a couple of places where two or more ground wires (black with a white stripe, IIRC) are spliced or consolidated into one using teensy crimped clips. Anyhoo, this led to the indicators being grounded through the turn signal filaments and receiving enough current to stay on. (At least, that's what I recall... it made sense at the time once I located the broken wires.)

Didnt mess with the bars but I did have the tank off. The main harness..thick one right under the tank was getting in the way of putting the tank on so I kinda stuffed it up towards the headlight bucket. Maybe thats a good place to start snooping??? Yes???

Yeah, the broken wires I found were buried in that large harness that leads from under the tank. IIRC, it branches off to the headlight and to the handlebars. By moving it around, I got the lights to blink and then began excavations to locate the issue.
