It is very easy to know how long the links are in a chain.

Nessism used those lengths in post #10, but did not explain them. The first number (5) is how many eighths of an inch it is long. The last two numbers are how many eighths of an inch wide it is. A 530 chain will have links that are 5/8 inch long, 3/8 inch wide. A 630 chain will be 6/8 inch long (3/4") and the same 3/8" wide.

Knowing the number of links in the original chain, multiply by the length of the stock link (6/8") to get the overall length. Divide that by the size of the new link (5/8"), you will get the number of links that you need.

If you need to add links for a longer swingarm, measure the additional length of the swingarm, multiply by 2. Divide that by the length of the chain link, you will find how many additional links you will need.

Is this the proper place to say "I like my shaft drive."?

** Note: If your result is an odd number of links add one link to get an even number
