    OEM Fairing for GS550E

I bought a 1980 GS550E that I've been enjoying very much. It came with a fairing that the seller told me was original to the bike. He said it was a dealer option that the original owner selected. I do not think I will ever put the fairing on, so I was wondering if anyone has any information on this fairing (manufacturer?) and how much it might be worth if I decide to sell it. It's in good condition, just not my style...

It's not OEM. Maybe some dealer option but (my opinion) it would have to come from Japan to qualify as OEM. Doubt it's worth much.

Not OEM, but it was a factory-authorized, dealer-onstalled option.

It was made by Calafia. It was their STX model that was renamed GSX for Suzuki.

Value? Not much, except for the one or two guys that just HAVE to have that option.

Thanks Steve! I hadn't been able to figure out the manufacturer or model of the fairing anywhere. Nice to know, even though it doesn't sound like it's worth much.

The value of the fairing definitely depends on the audience. The group here mostly goes for a naked bike, pretty much like it came from the factory, but there is also a considerable number that allow (encourage?) period-correct modifications. There are also many that do some more-modern modifications and updates, but the number that appreciate the comfort of a frame-mounted fairing is rather small. The problem with trying to pass that fairing on to another rider is that the mounting brackets are rather specific. Not sure if your 550 brackets will fit the larger GSes, like the 850/1000/1100, but they WILL be rather specific to the GS line. Other bikes will require either a different bracket or some serious modification of yours. Another problem in passing that fairing on is simply getting it there. If a buyer is not local, it can easily cost over $100 for shipping.
