    Piston rings for a 1978 GS750 C

    Hi everyone,
    I sent my bike to the mechanic because my valve guide seals were shot. he took it apart and checked it out and yes they were kaputt . He mentioned while he is in there to hone the cylinder and change the piston rings. Now he can't get the original ones and the ones that superceded the original rings have a small hole in them. Do you know anything about this? He asked me to come in tomorrow and look at it to see if I am ok with this. Should I be?

    Take some photos and post them up. Never seen OEM Suzuki rings with holes in them.

    Part# 12140-45013

    This is the P/N of the stock rings. There has been no supersession of part numbers that shows on the fish.

        So here is the real issue. The piston rings are ok. The shophand relayed the message wrong. What happened is that the new headgasket has an extra bolt hole at one end of the timing chain cut out area. The mechanic is worrying that this may leak oil. He wants me to make a decision whether to use it. The picture is from the old head gasket. Just imagine an additional bolt hole in the midd where the timing chain area is see arrow. Would use a gasket with an additional hole and just use gasket sealer or is there a place to buy a new head gasket for the 1978GS750C?

          IMG_8466.jpg Here is where the extra hole is on the new gasket. Actually I think it is on the opposite end.

              Suzuki changed the head/cylinder to add an extra bolt at the front of the camshaft tunnel on later year bikes. You can use that gasket on an older type engine, the little extension piece with the bolt hole just sticks out.

              Hopefully you are using OEM Suzuki gaskets such as that last photo shows.

                Thanks for the reply. Yes I am using the OEM Head Gasket from Suzuki. Are others not so good?
