    Engine noise diagnostic help

What is causing this noise ?

    1981 GS450E ,9000miles on it

My initial thought was loose cam chain so I took the valve head cover off:
    - I check valve clearances & re-shimmed now all valve clearances are within spec(.03-.08mm) except for my RIGHT LOBE EX SHIM which is at (.102mm) which is fine .

    - i removed the cam chain tensioner & reset the tensioner then reinstalled back onto engine block at TDC. Backed out the stop screw 1/4 turn then locked nut, confirmed tensioner is functional .

    - cam chain timing is perfect and there are 18pins between the 3^ and ^2 arrows.

    - the cam chain is is good condition not too worn or too much play. The guides are all in good shape

so I am stumped what is this noise and how do I fix it? Thank you. This is the 5th vintage bike I've restored and I'm stumped .

Hard to tell from that video. Doesn't sound too bad to me.

I can hear the higher pitch tapping noise that you're probably worried about but doesn't sound unusual.

There are usual sounds that these engines always make. There is another noise here. It's really regular, which means it's not cam walk. It's high pitched which means it's probably not deep inside.

It's a bit like doing heart murmur diagnosis over the phone, though.

I recently ran into some valve shims that looked right but were 29mm diameter instead of 29.5mm. Of course I didn't try them out to see whether they worked, but are your shims real Suzuki or ???

I just did all my valves at about .004 [.1mm] and all you can hear is the usual chain whirring sounds and the exhaust. And the cursed cam walk clocking noise when it's halfway warm.

I'm going to suggest taking the tensioner off one more time and making sure that it isn't hanging up on a wear spot or otherwise out of sorts. Despite whatever the odometer says, they have a habit [inevitability?] of leaking and somebody may have subbed a used one off who knows what; it's only two bolts…. I've heard of the spring getting tired over time.

Other possibilities are things like the cam cap bolts being stripped.

Peeve-I don't know how anybody tells anything from these 3 second videos moving quickly around a bike....in the olden days with Brownie 8 film we were pretty tight with footage- it was expensive! (and , boy do I regret that thrift now)..... but I don't get it nowadays.
Is this a warm bike after a ride or just a startup ? Anyways, sounds like a bit of valve clatter to me. (and a nicer exhaust tone than my bike!). If it's just one tappet noticeable after a ride, I myself would want to adjust it out or check it out. again, I like to suggest a stethoscope if you are really concerned.OR use a recorder function with the earphones as monitor, and close in to what is deemed "out of place"... You will hear EVERYTHING loud but an isolated noise on one side or the other of the valvetrain or wherever will stand out.
