    82 GSX400f swingarm swap...

    Howdy folks,
I've got a 82 gsx400f here and I'm thinking of doing a swingarm swap. Does anyone know if I could make a 2006 gsx750f one fit without a massive amount of fockery?? I don't mind a lil bit of narrowing etc and mebbe even some new bearings and or sleeves could be possible (as long as they're off the shelf??)

Any help or advice is much appreciated

Well, there are 24 years between those two bikes and one is a unishock and the other twin shocks. Better define "massive amount of fockery."

There wont be much to simply "bolt on" with that swingarm. First of all, it's monoshock. So either you convert your 400 frame to monoshock or weld shock mounts onto the 750 swingarm to suit your 400 frame. The 750 swingarm will be wider than the 400 one, so the top shock mounts on the 400 frame will not line up.

Then there's the pivot width - might be a little, might be a lot. And the pivot bolt will be different too.

Then if you get around all that the chain line will be off anyway (750 runs a 150 rear tyre on a 4.5in rim).

What is your overall goal here, anyway?
      Current:
Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha )

      Past:
      VL1500 Intruder (swapped for Z1300), ZX9R Streetfighter (lets face it - too fast....), 1984 GSX750EF, 1984 GSX1100EF (AKA GS1150)
And a bunch of other crap Yamahas....

I did put up a reply saying that I realised the monoshock was a hassle but it's gone walkabout?? Anyways the main reason to swap was to try and organise a reasonably simple rear disc brake for my 400. If you know of a much simpler route I'm all ears??

Hardest part about a drum to disc conversion will be mounting the MC. You could use a GS550 rear end - that will will probably bolt on quite easily.
