    1979 gs1000 fuel gauge connections

I have this bike with a fuel sender wires from the tank but don't know where to connect. The wires off gauge are male and female blades. Under the seat I find one connector which is male and female blades but they are in a ganged connector which would not readily accept my wires from the tank guage because they are crimped on with insulators. The connector under the seat wires are green and orange with green stripe. Are these the right connections and does polarity matter? And no, I don't have a wiring diagram or repair manual. The only manual I found online is for a 1980.

Ok looking at my 1980 gs1000 wiring diagram, I see the sender should have a B/W wire connected to common ground and a Y/B wire connected to the cluster, fuel level indicator.. This still doesn't make sense to me but if it makes a difference, one should note them at my tachometer does not light up like my Speedo when I turn my light on..

Ok, I peeled back the sleeping on the fuel tank sender wires and see that the female is Y/B and the male is B/W. Tank is pretty full and B/W to the tank gas cap reads 30 ohmsand the Y/B gas cap reads 60 ohm. I'm guessing the Y/B will read 0-90 ohms to ground. Moreover, I need to ground the B/W and then connect the other side to a Y/B coming out of the harness. But I'm not finding a Y/B male spade connection anywhere... Old bikes are supposed to be easy!!!

It sounds like someone clipped the connections to the fuel sending unit. There should be 2 wires, a couple of inches long, with bullet connectors under the tank, on the left side to connect the sending unit wires to. See if they're taped up under there

on my 78 1000 the wires for the tank sender are at the front, under the front rubber tank mounts (that sort of area!)

thanks, will look in front of the coils next time the tank is off. I do see the bullet connectors on the pigtail coming off the sender. The P.O. mated bullet connectors to them to extend the sender pigtail...
