I've heard that also, but I chose the Sangria Red of Ford, Mazda, and I believe Mercury. I haven't bought the paint yet so I can't see how close it is once it's sprayed. For me it doesn't have to match perfect as it's going on the front fender, not up against another red panel or tank. If you drive around be on the look out of a Ford Fusion or Mazda 6 (the new body style), Mercury Mariner, or Mazda Tribute (the Mazda version of the Ford Escape or Mercury Mariner and see if it's a closer match than the Dodge.
Truth is it's just a popular color and it seems to me all car companies have a very close color to that.Comment

From the Ford side I thought the code FN Toreador Red (not Dark) May be a good match too, but I never had a panel to put up against it.Comment

Toreador Red is readily available at most car parts places but I never thought of it as a good match, at least not for the Candy Fancy Maroon,
the '83 GS1100 is a basic standard red, no metallic in it I think. I would think it to be the easier paint to match.Comment

That is interesting; and they dont have the color code recipe either?
I had a paint shop mix the colors for me to match a RED ED side cover. The owner eye balled it. There is a gold flake in the paint that is sprayed over the base. I over did it on mine which is what gave my bike that orange look.Comment

Anybody looking at this thread needs to realize that most of teh discussion is about teh 1982 Maroon red color rather than the title posted by the OP for 1983 Red which according to teh parts finch is
1983 GS1100ED Pure Pearl Red 17R
These are 1982 Burgundy Red Colors NOT THOSE for the 1983 ED.
I've found both PRH and PEL being designated as "Inferno Red Pearl" in some sources.Last edited by posplayr; 10-23-2015, 09:23 PM.Comment

No only occurred to me to post as I was proofing the info posted. (i.e bought the wrong paint using teh 82 paint codes)
Chrysler PR4 POPPY RED/FLAME RED (Duplicolor Scratch Fix all) seems much closer but will probably lack the pearl highlights, but good enough for touch up paint.
