A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Are these OK??

I pulled out the pilot fuel screws because I was reading that they are supposed to be sharp. Mine have very distinct blunt ends.

I uploaded some photos in hopes that you would be able to tell.

I have a 78 GS750E.

TIA for the help!

The tips are broken off. Check the carb bodies, the tips may still be stuck in there. Check this thread for info on how to check the carb bodies. http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=82559

Those screws are hard to come by. Only way I know to get them is in K&L carb rebuild kits (Z1 Enterprises sells them). If you have the tools you may be able to sharpen them on a lathe.

I redid all the o-rings and dipped and stuff, but I had no idea the little jets n things could break.

Are there any other components in the carbs I should check more closely?

Change the intake boot O-rings while the carbs are off if you haven't already. False air from the boots is very common and will cause a high idle.

To resharpen mine I clamped the screw into a drill then put a dremel with a sharpening stone into a vice and spun both while lightly touching the screw to the stone... Worked pretty well

The one on the far right came out way too short because I made the stone go into the screw instead of away from it.

I did change those as well by recommendation of the forum :D.

Am I better off reshaping these ones or buying new ones? The PO put on pods and I don't even know if he rejetted.

It should be written on the jets, provided they arent too badly pitted.

Well! Today I discovered the broken off pieces. Dang those holes are small! I would never have found that without this forum.

Next step - find a sharp something to get them out. I don't have an awl, so I'm gonna get creative.

A piece of stiff wire might push them out. Sewing needle maybe? You can get a carpet needle that is curved. Straight pin held with needle nose pliers. Just be careful not to enlarge the holes.

Once I've got the nubs out, what can I do to sharpen the screws? I've considered sandpaper, a pocket knife, teeth, etc :P

I have frequently, delicately-- very delicately-- cleaned out pilot orifices by using a 4-5" long piece of old "high E" string (the thin one) from one of my guitars. Bend the end to make a 3/8" long leg at about a 45 deg. angle, turn the carb upside down, squirt some good carb solvent into the holes, and then noodle the wire straight in & out a few times. Don't wiggle it, since that might re-size the holes!

That's a good idea...I don't have any extra violin strings around though, usually I do! Maybe it's time to replace the e string.

Any ideas for resharpening the screws?

I have a drill but no sharpening stone. Is there some other way to do it? How soft are they? Could I use a knife? Sandpaper?
