Turn signal problems
I am hoping someone can help me. I?ve been working on this problem for too long with no results. My signal control on my handle bar rusted apart so I picked up another used one (was unsure of the year bike it came from but it was of course a Suzuki). Everything works with the exception of the turn signals. I?ve traced all the wires within the unit and they are all connected correctly. Most of the wires seem to be the same with the exception there is no brown/yellow wire (as on my original unit the brown/yellow was connected above my horn). As well on my original unit the black/white wire attached to my horn connected to the other black/white wire and seemed to be grounded within the signal unit. The replacement unit does not connect the black/white wires. I?ve tested continuity when I am using the signals and there is power going to the handle bar unit and power coming from the unit when signals are turned left or right. The power makes it into the Turn Signal Control Unit behind the right side panel but then no signals. I know that this may mean the Turn Signal Control Unit may be gone but I am worried my replacement handle unit may still not be wired correctly and I would be replacing an expensive part for nothing. Can anyone shed some light on this for me before I spend money I don?t really want to unless I have to? Thanks.

You probably will have the ditch the auto-cancel feature on the bike and wire directly to a different signal flasher. sqdancerlynn knows how to do this on your model. -

they are not coming on at all. I have tried the bypass the auto off module by following some of the suggestion on here. Now the lights come on but do not blink. I suppose I am getting there but not completely. I am having trouble figuring out the part about connecting a flasher.Comment

Hi Mr. azr,
Your manual should have a procedure for testing the turn signal relay unit. The procedure in my manual is pretty simple. It's outlined in my little guide: Turn Signal Relay Replacement. Perhaps it will help you.
Thank you for your indulgence,

Problem fixed, thanks to everyones help. Removed the Turn Signal Control Unit all together. Joined the signal wires, front and back, together and installed a flasher for the live wire feeding the Turn Signal Switch. Bob's your uncle I have signals again. The part that had me confused was I didn't correct the wiring at the Turn Signal Swith, I still had live wire from the turn signal switch connected with the live wire from the light control switch, ha,ha. Once the headlights started flashing I realized what I was doing wrong. Thanks again for everyones help.Last edited by Guest; 03-05-2009, 05:34 PM.Comment
