Did I mention the 500 has an intake leak, oil leak (x3) and needs a bit of work on the suspension.......old bikes rule!
Got any more pics of the 500? One pic on the truck just doesn't cut it

I would rather just ride as well. I will just get my bike running and secure the seat and other stuff to the frame so that I can ride. Then I'll worry about the looks later.

Right now I'd be happy just to hear mine running...

        Awesome Build!

Echoing previous sentiments here, that is truly one of the sweetest customs I've seen. When I finish up college and have a garage of my own again I want to build something similar. It looks incredible man. Seriously awesome build, I dig it a lot.

Although when I build my super cool 450, I think I will have a spare set of wheels with some knobbies on them too

Best of luck with the 500. Keep us posted!

            made it home safe

            Hey Guys,

Glad to be on the forum. I did make it home safe. have a few things to work out though. Enjoyed going through the carbs with Scott and it sounded awesome when we got done. The charging thing seems like its sporadic. It starts but sometimes the starter has a hard time turning over like the battery is dead. Scott sent me the test so I will try that tomorrow night and see what comes out of it.

also got a little crank case cover leak on the top of the cover right by the engine stamp. After further inspection, I don't see any knicks or cracks or anything. Was thinking of changing the hardware to allen head bolts and maybe putting a new gasket on. don't really want to take it off. Any other suggestions?

Glad to see you join the forum. Welcome

So let's get the charging system out of the way. My bike actually overcharges because of a failing R/R. I never fixed that and guess what happened? That blew my igniter.

My suggestion would be to pull out your multimeter and go through the stator papers. Find the faults and repair and replace them.

The allen head bolts are pretty cheap for a set.

You can get them on Z1 Enterprises too.

              Good luck!

this build is really cool! As for the rear brake, I wonder if you could fit a combination sprocket/disc brakes. I saw one on a custom BSA in one of my cycle magazines. I've seen them made for HD's but not sure about other makes of bikes.

scottychop: Can you tell me how far you can turn the handlebars before the fork tube hit the tank?

I daily my GS and I wonder if my turning radius will be affect by the USD fork swap.

                        Thanks.
