wire diagram colors not matching with coil - different colors

Got the wire harness pretty much on. some things didn't match up, so we'll see.

Question is.....can you hook up the coils backwards? so if we guess wrong, we might ruin something?

    Thanks!!

There are 2 sets, two connectors for each coil.

One set is white and orange with white strip

The other is orange with white strip and black with yellow strip

The diagram we have does not have those colors on it. The guy who was helping us had to leave. He does not live around us, so he will probably not be able to come back to help anymore.

I can not tell from looking at the diagram what colors are what either.

      Lost at this point......UGH!!

        This is what I did.

on the right coil, hooked the black/yellow strip to the positive side and the orange/white strip to the negative side.

on the left coil, hooked the orange/white strip to the positive and the white wire to the negative

        Just reading what I wrote,
On the left coil shouse I switch it. Since both sets have an orange/white strip wire, should that one go to the same (negative or positive) spot?

        Thanks!!

Worst case scenario the coils fire in the wrong order and you have to just switch them around. I was thinking about it on the ride home.

You get a chance to re-solder and test the "botched" connection running to the ignition/gauge cluster?

O/W is the common between the two coils and goes to the positive side. The W wire goes to the 1-4 coil and the B/Y goes to 2-3.

All this is in the service manual so you might want to make yourself a copy (download from Basscliff's site if you don't already have it).

stuck the battery in, connected the "bothched" connection....nothing.

did not change the wires on the coil though, would this matter??

It shouldn't make a difference if the coils are in or not, the guage cluster should come on when you put a battery in and tun the key to "on".

This might sound dumb....but what is the fuse block?

                      Thanks!!

Thank you rustybronco!! That was helpful to see.

Replaced all the fuses. Went thru 5 because the second one down kept popping. So, ran out of the 10's and put a 20 in it just to see....now it works.

Don't understand it. Is this ok? can it stay like that since it works like that? Is it because we replaced the wire harness with a different one? I don't know, but if it's ok to run like that, it's working.

UGH....now to tackle the switches and such. Still don't know about that, but just had a small victory!!

I'm not electrical so don't know what to do now. Any suggestions?

The headlight, tail light, blinkers and right/left control switches are not attached to the new wire harness yet. Would that possibly be causing this issue?

That is where I am stuck, can't figure out this part.
