    Yet another carb question?

Ok I have a 1982 GS1100G 4into1 header with the airbox. I bought the bike with a dyna ignition and I was told it had been jetted. I found duct tape over the hole in the airbox that once housed a snorkel looking apparatus. I removed the duct tape and a power gap developed at 5k and disappeared at 7k. So I thought I needed new jets. Upon inspection I seen that they put the jets in but did not change the needles. so I bought a jet kit put it in set the needle at the 3rd clip and reassembled. After turning the mixture screws out 2.5 turns the bike stumbles a little upon opening the throttle once the throttle is opened it screams. The problem is at 1/8 to 1/4 throttle. So my question is do I need to change the float hieght from stock? Should I change the pilot jet? I need help! Any advise will be appreciated.

Try the needle on the fourth notch down from the top.

Today, 12:14 AM Steve Why not find a snorkel to put on? +1

Better yet, find another snorkel. I purchased my 1000 without a snorkel and soon discovered a monster flat spot. Temp fix was the duct tape which got rid of most of it but without the snorkel it will be tough to tune.

CV's are very finicky about airflow and the snorkel is there for a reason. My 1000 has a V&H street megaphone, snorkel and K&N in the stock box, one over Mikuni pilots, shimmed stock needles, and two over Mikuni mains. No decell popping and pulls great in all rev ranges. The plugs read a touch rich but richer is better than leaner. It also has the BWringer test ride and don't f*ck with it seal of approval.

That article is way better/simpler to understand than the one from Factory Pro. I highly recommend it.

The Factory Pro jetting tutorial is more for race bikes since there is no mention of plug reads.
I melted two motors by not properly reading plugs but trying to wring its neck.

Ok I put the stock needles back in and the bike seems to run better except for when cruising. You know when your not accel or decel just cruising it sputters. oh yea I put the tape back over the snorkel hole and the stock pilots back in with the mixture screws turned out 2.5 turns. Any ideas?

Try different settings on the needle till you get it right.

I would try to find a snorkel. Here are a couple that should fit. Not cheap but IMHO you will have a hard time tuning without it.
