    Popy cams on 1000 motor

Hi I have bought a second hand head complete, on stripping it down it needs a light skim and valve grind but the cams on inspection have popy stamped on them.
Do I need to set the timing any different than stock as stock suited the style (bobber/cruiser) of the ride.
The cams are in great shape also the cam caps look very good so I assume the previous owner had work done recently.
I am fitting slide carbs from my original slide carb head with modified inlet rubbers on to the CV carb head so I dont want to fly its quick enough for me.
    Any help welcome
    Cheers Noel in the UK.

Those are Yoshimura cams and worth quite a bit of money. They are suited for high rpm usage so you would be much better off with a set of stock cams for that cruiser of yours. You can sell the cams for an easy $200 USD, and get a set of stockers for about $20 for a nice bit of pocket money. The head most likely has HD valve springs too, so you should swap them over for stock springs as well. Regarding the timing, if you decide to run them just install them using the stock timing marks. The timing tweeks are in the indexing of the cams relative to the stock sprockets, not in the way the sprockets are set relative to the timing marks on the rest of the engine.

BTW, I have a couple sets of extra cams for a 1000 if you need some.

Hi thanks very much for the help, the stock set up on my old head was very quick for the lay back style and compared to my old Morinis and small guzzi is more than enough. I have the old cams still it is just the head is not serviceable due to previous poor fitting so may sell the cams and stay steady.

Yea, sell the cams and valve springs. Install your old parts into the new head. The GS valve train parts, like the cams, are very durable on the two valve cylinder models so no worry reusing them. As an added benefit, the stock springs will allow the valves to live longer. You should be able to pocket an easy $200 USD.
