    Carburetor Flooding

Just trying to get some idea's. I just recently purchased a 1982 GS650GL. I got home and got the bike to fire but noticed fuel pouring out the air intake. I pulled the air filter and box and pulled the intake back off of the carbs to see what was going on when the bike is running it is pouring fuel out of the air intake on the carbs except for #4 (the one on the far right side). Also when i turn the petcock over to primary it just pours the fuel out of the intake also. Any ideas or what? Thank ahead of time.

OH WOW...GERAT BIKE, if I do say so myself!

The PRI setting on the petcock IS NOT primary... it stands for PRIME!

Use it when the carb bowls are empty (after winter storage) or rebuilding the carbs.

Two things come to mind for you situation:
    1. Float seats that are not holding back the pressure of a full tank of fuel
    2. A petcock that is not working correctly.

I could give you a play by play of what you need to do, but thankfully...that wheel has already been spun.

BassCliff will be along shortly to roll out the red Berber for you and provide you with EXTENSIVE links and the best Welcome that you will EVER recieve on the web.

Sit tight and hold onto your petcock...it's about to get
    VERY interesting, AND FUN!!!

Thank you all for the great responses like I said I was trying to get some ideas and got alot of great ones. I think my first best bet after all that has bein said is try and rebuild these carbs. The guy i bought the bike from said they were freshly rebuilt but he paid the guy with a 12 pack to do it. I'll take them off and down to school to take a bath in the sonic cleaner.

Here I go - giving advice when I don't know anything about bikes except what I learned on this site by reading... (ok... I know a bit more than that... but not much!)

if you had gas pouring out of the air intake there's a chance that gas may also have poured into your engine as well (from the "fronts" of your carbs) - I believe that you may want to change the oil before you start the thing up.

Check with someone more knowledgeable - but I think you may have a risk of this...
