GS650GL - How critical is the airbox drain hose?

Going through the complete carburator and intake again to get my bike running. Given all the discussion about the sensitivity about air leaks, I am going through everything using the o-rings from Cycle O-rings (and the hex fasteners with anti-sieze ) and I noticed the bottom drain for the air box was missing. Is it necessary or is there a decent work around? I can order another but it runs $13+. How much restriction does the drain need?

Thanks. I am half way through redoing the carb's o-rings with the good stuff. Hopefully it will come off of choke next time.

A related question. What can I do to better seal the air cleaner tube into the airbox if this is critical? I am thinking of using thin weather stripping to make a tighter seal.

The drain is necessary in case the carbs overflow, otherwise the gas can dump out and wet your tire. In terms of running I don't think it will matter much if at all.

Given all the discussions on air leaks in the intake areas, I just don't know how critical the drain area is since it is after the air cleaner and potentially sucking air from the road. If draining is not critical, I would just cap it.

It just directs overflow gas towards the ground instead of all over your motor or frame, etc.

But either way it's just a hose with a small metal clamp on it, just goto walmart or lowes or autozone and buy a similar thin hose and clamp it on.
Don't pay $13, that seems ****ing insane for a stupid hose.

If the carbs start to puke gas, it can put you on the ground if the gas gets on your rear tire. Definitely get a hose of some sort and make sure it's routed off line of the tire just in case.

Regarding $13 for a hose, yes, crazy. The OE hose does come with a nice cap though, which seals the airbox from sucking false air yet allowing you to drain it when necessary.

Here is what I am going to do.

            First; thanks for the feedback.

Second Whatever hose I put on I will neck it down to another tube to ease locations and reduce air flow into the air box.

I will try to get that done this week.

            Thanks again

              Ordered the replacement Drain Line

I ordered the drain hose to keep the bike intakes consistent.

Once I have the bike running well, I will try an on/off comparison to see if that would effect its running.

Hopefully within the next 2 or 3 weeks.
