    Gasket Thickness?

Okay I figured I would give my hand at making my own Gasket for the bike. I do a bit of leather work and have several hole punches, I figure what the heck. The problem I have now is, what thickness should the gaskets be. I have two sizes at Pep Boys 1/16 and 1/32. I did not see where the thickness is stated. Can someone help me out and will these fiber/rubber composites work between the cylinder and the Crankcase?

Thickness is not the issue there, the material is. I don't think any fiber/rubber material would stand up to duty in that location.

Please don't even attempt to make a cylinder base gasket, it's under very high pressure and will fail unless you use the same material as the OE gasket. Making engine cover gaskets is fine, but not the base gasket. Regarding thickness, it's best to measure the stock thickness and go from there. I have some gaskets I can measure for you later tonight if you want, but of your two choices I'd go with the thinner stuff.

      To measure is to know.
