    Fork seal question...

    The aftermarket fork seals I installed (K&L) leak & I'm going to have to replace them. Not a gusher, but I'll be changing them out sooner instead of later.

    Should I replace them with OEM seals, or use those Moly seals. Do you guys have good things to say about the moly's?

    I've had excellent results with the Leak Proof Pro Moly seals. I've probably installed a dozen sets or more. They work even on imperfect forks, as long as you make sure the edges of any pits or dings have been smoothed out with a stone.

    However, if you pound in Pro Moly seals as per normal procedure, they will get damaged and they will leak. You must read and follow the directions -- work the seals in gently with your fingers or perhaps a blunt plastic tool of some sort (these seals are made from a flexible molded plasticy-rubberish substance, not the traditional rigid metal frame and rubber of a normal seal). And make sure you install the included aluminum washer between the seal and the clip.

    If that's all too weird for you, the OEM seals are great and not very expensive. The Pro Moly seals are available more quickly from Dennis Kirk.

    You know, I don't think I've ever seen anything from K&L that actually worked... fork seals, carb kits, brake kits, petcock kits -- all junk.

        I just installed K&L fork seals in my latest project, using their valve stem seals too. You guys are making me nervous.

          ya pays yer money yer takes yer chances.... but if anything is a pain in the a$$ to do.... always go oem. chances are you won't need to do it a second time

            I used Pro-Moly (think I paid $15-20 from Motorcycle Superstore), my used fork tubes have a few dings I polished well, no leaks. I installed them in March or April, they're working fine.

              I just used the K&L valve stem seals as well (bought from Z1). They work just fine.

              This was my first time using their fork seals however, & I'm disapointed. BTW, my fork tubes were not pitted nor damaged so I'm not really sure why the one side is now seeping fork oil...

                I used K&L fork seals. No oil leakage yet, but they do lose air pressure
