Oil filter spring cover stud help..

    Hey guys,

I somehow stripped either a stud or nut or both on the spring loaded oil filter cover... I dont know how because I barely put any muscle into it at all.. Basscliff was kind enough to provide me with a link of where to get some more.

I am a noob wrencher, so how do I go about removing the old stud? Do I remove the cover, then hope I can get a vice-grips on the stud and attempt to unscrew it? I guess I need some pointers here...

Once I get the old one removed, do I just throw some loctite and screw the new one in its place?

Thanks in advance for any help.

No loctite. The spring means all this stays tight. Just wind it in till it stops.

The old one - use locking "mole" grips or if you can get 2 nuts on it to lock together then that's better.

      Hi,

Use vice grips to get the old stud out. For generic parts see: Oil Cover Studs and Nuts

      Thank you for your indulgence,
