1978 GS 1000 front fork conversion

    Hi,

i own a 1978 GS 1000, wondering what front forks will bolt on? i've heard 90's gsxr front USD forks bolt right on. will i need to change the rear swingarm to accomodate for this as well or will the gsxr tire fit the stock 78 swingarm? what do i need to know? please help..all advice is much appreciated

    thanks,

    Lyndon

    Hi,
The 90's gsxr fork is almost bolt on, you only need to modify the steering stopper on the frame.A 5.5 wheel dont fit in the stock swingarm, but you can fit a 1100e swingarm on the gs1000 with the gsxr 5.5 wheel. i have this set-up on mine. You will need a offset front sprocket.

why do you want to swap them? better looks, or upgraded suspension? almost all suzuki front ends are easily interchangeable but the rear ends can be a bit more tricky

Plus. some of the GSXR front ends are a lot shorter than stock

I'm also interested in this. I am looking to upgrade the looks (and suspension) of a 1978 GS1000. I have been searching craigslists and ebay trying to find the correct parts. Is there a theard on upgrading a '78 GS1000? It would be great if someone had a parts list and an easy step-by-step instructions on how they did it. (yes, I did try using the search function)

I am interested in a complete front end swap and rear swingarm swap. If anyone has any information, then let us know.

This is for an '80 but everything should be applicable in some way. It is a long thread but should walk anyone interested in these mods.

And a pic of his bike.
