    Engine fitment

New to the forum. Searched this forum and went to a dealer for answers and found none, so far. Will a 1983 GS550 engine bolt right into a 1981 GS550T frame? Further, will everything wiring wise be "plug and play?"

Regret the short fuse, but need to know ASAP, if not sooner.

    Thanks for your time.

To be honest..I don't know for sure, but, I think it would fit. What model is the '83 engine from ? "E".."L" ? I don't think it would be a plug and play as there's ALWAYS something that makes it a little difficult.

MY GUESS ?? you would have to use the 81 ign and the 83 2bbl carbs and airbox. The engine should fit but will need the motor mounts modified. They redesigned motor in 83 . 81 is a 2 valve motor and the 83 is a 4 valve..

I think you could make the engine fit but you would have to fashion new motor mounts and the exhaust would almost certainly have to be changed/modified. Also, the ignition would have to be modified significantly - the '83 ignitor would have to be custom wired into the old bikes wiring harness. Extensive mod any way you look at it.
