    Ignition cover gasket

    Found this gasket under the igniton cover on my wife's 86 GS400.

    Don't recall ever seeing one before.Put it back or leave it out?

    Put it back...see number 12 in this picture:

      Yup, definitely put it back, mine has one too.

      I believe my gasket set has a new one in there waiting for me to get that far...

        May be a faulty memory or something.Don't remember one on any other engine.The 750's do not for sure.I'll put it back next time I'm in there.

          I can only speak for my 450, and it's definitely there... maybe it's just a twin thing?

            I think they all have gaskets.
            Nothing to seal in but plenty to seal out, if you ride in the rain that is.

              I have one on my GS550 motor, keeps the points dry.

                Hi SV, leave it in, both of the GS550's I've had,the GS1000 engine and the GSX1100(GS1100E to you guys) I replaced it with all had those gaskets,on the 1000 I just used to make new ones out of cereal packet with grease rubbed into the unprinted side. You really don't want a dead engine that locks up the back wheel when you go through water leaned over-guess how I know that!. Hope this helps, Johnny

                    Buy a sheet of gasket material,trace old one if you have it.
