    Fork for 450e

    Hello,
Been working on my 450, the fender mounts were broke on the right side when i got it. I plan on not putting a front fender on anyhow. However, I was thinking about a new fork. You guys recommend any take offs that will swap right to my bike. I was also considering grinding the mounts to flush, but worried how deep I can grind.

No thoughts on the fork, should i just put new springs in and grind the tabs down? Have another question...Wanting to cut the pipes down shorter on this bike. Does anyone know how far the straight pipes runs under the muffler? Can I cut the muffler off and still have straight pipe under it? Have the stock exhaust.
Also have some takeoffs parts if anyone wants them (front fender not the best, speedo cluster, blinkers, speedo cables, bars, chain guard) In KC
    Thanks for any ideas

I'm not sure what you mean by fender mounts. If you mean the cast aulminium tabs on fork lowers, which are tapped, I'd get new forks. Front fenders stop alot of stuff from hitting you. Rocks, mud, water ect. Maddbikebreaker has a set of forks for sale in the "Parts for sale " section.

I picked up a set of complete forks off of Ebay from a 82 450E for my 83 450E. The lowers are the same. Difference between the 2 years is that the 82 doesn't have the air system where as the 83 does. Here is a list of compatible 450 forks that I got from BassCliff

        Hi Mr. 12Bravo,

Do you mean the lower (outer) tube on the left side (as you sit on the bike), part no. 51140-44170-291? The following will also fit:

        GS450E (1983)
        GS450ET (1980)
        GS450ET (1981)
        GS450ET (1982)
        GS450EX (1980)
        GS450EX (1981)
        GS450EX (1982)
        GS450EZ (1980)
        GS450EZ (1981)
        GS450EZ (1982)
        GS450ST (1980)
        GS450ST (1981)
        GS450ST (1982)
        GS450SX (1980)
        GS450SX (1981)
        GS450SX (1982)

How do I know this? It's all in your "mega-welcome" my friend.

as far as i know the 250 & 400 twins have the same forks,33mm. i think 450's are also the same as them. ie single front disk.

They sure are. Things changed a bit for the '83 models, but prior to that they're definitely the same.

Now that I can't answer, however...

If you go to Alpha Sports (or some other site using true Suzuki part numbers) and find the part number of what you're after, you can then go to Bike Bandit and put the part number in the search engine there which will tell you every model that uses the same part.

You should be able to work out which models have what in common.

Ok, thanks. I have found a 91 GS500 for cheap. Do you think the fork will swap off it, and any ideas about a exhaust swap from it as well. Thanks.

Exhaust swap is unlikely as the frame on the 500's is different to the 450's and the exhaust ports on the 500 head point straight out instead of at an angle, meaning a 500 exhaust will not match the 450 exhaust ports.

The forks will probably be good, and you could even probably take the whole front end over, although some measurements would be needed to be certain.

i don't think the stansions will fit as i think they're bigger on the 500, but as pete says , the whole front end may fit if the bearings are the same. some have tapered & some ball bearings but these can also be changed.
