Valve train chatter dependant on RPM

For those that have the twin 8 valve. Is your valve train noisy all the time ?

I've noticed that while cruising around 3000 the valve train seems very excited and noisy but is within adjustment. Above 3000 the engine note is louder than the valve train so its hard to hear it. And below 3000 its still there but disappears at 2000 RPM.

I have a feeling that the 4 valve engines don't have this noise because of the simplicity of the head with buckets and shim's and therefore nothing to really chatter.

The 8 valve has 4 rockers, 8 adjustments, several wearing surfaces, such as, cam, valve tappets, rocker pin...

I'm just wondering if its possible to quiet it down or maybe I'm missing something.

    Thank you for your input.

Yeah... I've heard that the roller bearing crank engines have louder operation noise than plain bearing crank engines. Am I wrong anyone?

Not sure on that one. I'd assume so because of the noise roller bearings make.

But mine is a plain bearing type like yours :P

my 250 is quite noisy too, i just thought it was a twin thing. My valves are due for adjustment though. Which will quieten it down for atleast 30 minutes.

Your motor is like a good wife. If she's making a noise she's happy. It's when she goes quiet that you need to worry. Yes, these old aircooled bikes like to make a bit of noise.
