    Removing the engine covers

    I figure I'll ask before I break something (else)
    I'm taking this apart to prep for new gaskets and to determine if anything else needs doing.
    Screws are all out or beheaded and I wanted to ask if I need to remove the 'Governor Assembly' in order to remove this? if so, how?



    Anything else I need to check while I'm under here?

    ok, I got the case off after removing the governor assembly.

      1 check the stator for signs of melting or shorting.
      2 make sure the screws holding the stator haven't backed off and it isn't loose in any way.
      3 check the wires for any signs of overheating or cracking.
      4 check the clutch for any grooves made by the plates.
      *you could go as far as taking the clutch apart and checking the springs in the back of the clutch basket for excessive wear or if any are broken.

      **maybe switch to SS Allen bolts.

      that's about all I can think of.

      It does look very nice and clean in there.

        With the cases off, consider getting the wet n dry paper out and polish the cases. I'm in the middle of doing the same on my 400 and the difference is night and day.
