Don't we all? Oh, I'd need a Kat first too of course... haha

Here's another and it says 1296 in the blurb below but the bike has a sad end in this one:

Steve Martin at the Phillip Island Classic race in Jan 2011. 1981 Suzuki Katana 1296. Engine stoppage approx 1 minute into video.

        Same bike and rider 2012:

There's a little more detail here:

And Steve Martin is or was the historic lap record holder at PI as well...

Aaah thanks for that, I thought it was a little more close to the real deal but I couldn't find too much detail...

                From the wiki:
Steve Martin is a motorcycle road racer from Australia. He currently resides in Switzerland. He is the 2009 World Endurance Champion for YART (Yamaha Austria Racing Team), but is a veteran of the World Superbike Championship, and former champion of the Australian series.
If he was part of a Honda Fireblade racing team, would he be racing for "FART?"

                  Hahahaha nice

I have also had the "pleasure" of pulling Steve Martin's 748 out of the kitty litter on turn 2 at Qld Raceway followed a lap later by Craig McMartin's 748... it was a wet day...

Even though this is on the "other " side of the pond, thought you might find this interesting , good read on vintage GS racing back in the day.

Damn that's sweet. Been more and more interested in track riding, and hoping do do my first next season. Along with getting a dedicated track bike. I'd hate to bin my daily rider on the track and be bikeless

Love watching onboard videos where you can see what they are doing with the throttle. He's constantly on it, and seldom has the bike below what looks like 7-8 grand.

Very cool, thanks for sharing Pete!

Get yourself a newer GS500 and go for it I reckon

They should be dirt cheap for a track bike I would think and enough in common with your 850 to be able to maintain it yourself...

That was my plan yeah. Probably looking to get a mid 90's sport bike. Either teapot Katana, or a ZX7, or if I can find one I'd really prefer a GSXR. Something that makes a little bit more power, but can be had for cheap. I like the sound of a 1500 track bike. That way when I bin it in turn 2 I didn't just loose 10 grand on a modern supersport
