    Top case on SV

Well, this isn't pretty, but it is functional. Received an extra rear seat pan when I got the bike, found a Yamaha top case on Craigslist for $40 and combined the two (somewhat common mod on SVRider.com.)

Can re-install the rear seat when I don't need the top case.

Works well, but it ain't a thing of beauty.

Hey wait... since when have you had an SV???

Been contemplating a top box myself lately, need to see if one will fit on my little rear rack...

      Hi Pete!

Picked up the SV on Memorial Day (End of May.) Looks like I'll have to sell the GR and I am not looking forward to it. Really like the old gal, but can't keep both.

      Riding experience is REALLY different.

Aaaah I see! Bugger you can't keep 'em both though, good to have one to ride and one to wrench on... aiming for that myself

I think the biggest drawback to a top case (at least on the B12) is that it makes it a pain in the butt to swing a leg over the bike.

I think on mine the rack will keep it far enough back to not be a major issue, although if I have a large parcel on there I do need to adjust my leg swing to compensate... it's getting annoying taking the throwover saddle bags on and off every day...

Good thing I've been doing the karate thing for years. Keeps the hips limber to kick up and over the seat.

To be honest, that was the plan. But... will have two kids in college within the year. Just lucky to be able to afford one bike for now.

Absolutely will be kicking myself later, but choices have to be made.

Yeah life goes that way sometimes... once they're done with college off you go again right?

That's why I bought the SV now. Rare opportunity to spend a few dollars on a bike. I suspect I'll be riding it for a long time.

Might get to add an old one back into the stable later, but if not...the SV will do nicely. It's already 12 years old

I also hate the way top cases look, but... I've got top cases on all my bikes.

They're just indecently handy. You can actually use the bike to commute, run errands, etc. and there's room for the stuff you need on an extended day ride.

Fortunately you can't see the case when you're riding.

Just make sure you close the thing properly before blastoff. I've absent-mindedly left mine open several times. It flips open at highway speed, but fortunately I've only lost a few cleaning rags.

Yea, I can see myself doing that as well. Case works out nicely, but happy to ride without it unless I need it. About the only luggage option--the PO put a high pipe on the bike, so saddlebags are out without a lot of hassle.
