    legit z1 900?

    #2
apart from the obvious, exhaust, filters and shocks it looks legit.
the only suspect is the twin disc with trailing calipers. the original had single disc with a leading caliper, but as with all older bikes (as we know) a twin disc was a popular upgrade
    1978 GS1085.

Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!

There aren't any reflectors in the fork lowers and the side cover emblem is weird.

And the side plates are home made. They never said Z-1 900, they had 900 and underneath that it said Double Overhead Cam. Could be a cobbed up Z-1 or a Z-1-ified KZ.

Nope. The side covers are from a KZ and as others have noted the emblems are concocted. Also it has the wrong forks for a Z1. Should have a single leading caliper and reflectors. Also the carbs are either VM 26 or VM 29's. The picture is too blurry, but they are not Z1 VM 28's. Those would have flatter tops.

            It is a KZ900.

The forks, gas tank, side covers, carbs tail and more show this.

This is a legit Z1 for reference:

Would be a good deal if you made him aware of the fact and got it cheap subsequently.

                A KZ900 is worth far less than a Z1.

For a bike like the one pictured that runs decent, it would likely fetch $2,000-$3,000 on eBay depending on mileage and some better pictures....

For a 75 Z1, the price would likely be $5000 or more.

Where a lot of people get confused is the VIN shows a frame number starting with Z1F - and the engine with Z1E.

All KZ900A models have VIN's higher than Z1F-85700 (the KZ900B LTD has a different VIN as it was manufactured in the USA - they start with KZ900B-5xxxxx)

Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.
