    Don't know what Mikuni Flatslides these are . . . Do you?

    Here is a picture of a set of Mikuni Flatslides that are currently on my 1981 Kawasaki GPz550. They are sort of MYSTERY because no one at the GPz550 forum knows what (Model, specs & jetting) they are. Sudco which specializes in Mikuni Carbs does not sell these or know anything about them either besides they are "race carbs"

    So lets see who knows . . . Ideally I would like to find a source of parts. You can see from the pic I am missing a part too.

    the shaft plug?
    might try one from a VM.
    a customer had a set of 34's that was bastard flat slides...not RS series.
    sold and installed a set of new 36 RS for him...he sold the 34's on craigslist to someone unknowing for 300...tisk tisk
    i have no clue what or where they came from but my thoughts are they may have been a factory carb from something....maybe from another country.

      From what i can see they look like the flatslides that early GSXR 750's came with outside the US. I think inside the US you got CV flatslides ?
      Anyway, they will take normal Mikuni jets. To confirm, have a look at the choke size (bore dia) entry should be 29mm, but past that they will be 33mm dia right through. They have two accelerator pumps operated by push rods off the throttle shaft.
      Good carbs and very tunable except for the lack of alternative needles. RS needls are a different length sadly. I only know of two needles for these, Jap home market (richer) and export (lean).
      A version of them which was 33mm all the way through was available as the race kit carb for GSXR's, no idea if any needles were available for those.

        they are not the early GSXR carbs, the slide pivot shafts on those VM29SS carbs are on the front of the carbs (cylinder head side).also the GSXR carbs have the float bowls with normal drain screws, not the hexagon nuts on them.
        I know because i am after a set, see my ad in the wanted section.
        those are proper Mikuni race carbs. not sure which model though.
        1978 GS1085.

          The look similar to the TM carbs - but these may be a generation before those. I looked in some old catalogs, but I didn't find any looking exactly like these.

            haven't you yanked those off the bike and pulled them apart yet?

            Some more pictures would be helpful

            I'd just assume that they were jetted correctly, as whoever did all those mods spent a ton of cash on that bike

              Big T,

              No I have not started tearing anything down . I won't have the second bay of the garage cleared out till mid December. I had not mentioned it earlier but the throttle cable currently does not lift the slides. Could be nothing more than Berryman clean or adjustment won't fix but if parts are broken in the unobtanium category I might be well you know.

              There is another set of these same Mikuni Flatslides over on the GPz550 Forum which the Administrator bought for his GPz550 track bike. He is switching to SV650 for racing so there is a glimmer of hope too.

                If the slides are stuck, boiling them, or ultrasonic is best
