    New member in mn/wi area

    Hello all,

My name is Dave and I live near the MN/WI border. I have a '77 GS750 that is finally getting to the point where I can start to believe that it won't forever be a project (fired it up this last weekend!). I was a member on this site a couple years ago, but had since forgotten all of my login info. I have been perusing the forums for a couple days and have a couple questions that I haven't been able to find the answers to yet.

Looks like she's been around the block but also not left out in the weather. A bit more cleaning up and some paint will work wonders! Did you put the clubmans on - have you been bitten by the "cafe" bug?

I did. It is a style of bike that I have always been interested in. I know that some are against this type of modification, but I believe that you have to make your bike your own. Also, I save the original parts as the come off the bike, just in case I ever want to restore it or find someone who needs the parts.

Agreed, each to their own. Generally, the forum is OK with mods which are performed well, but have little patience for hacks which make the machine unsafe. With regard to safety, a 37 yr old bike needs the breaklines replaced and the calipers/master cylinders serviced (rebuilt).

absolutely. they are on the list. i won't likely actually ride it until next spring. i want to make sure it will be a solid and safe ride first. would you recommend an upgraded material for the brakelines, or are oe spec lines ok?

Stainless steel braided lines are a favorite on here and are available from numerous places, they give a better "feel" and will last years longer than OEM. Some members even make their own!

                      Hey, small world lol
Thanks for the routes. I'd really like to have it road ready by fall, but it seems that I may end up finishing it over the winter.
