    info on Italy

Want to tour Italy next Dec and not necessarily want to do the traps. A little off the beaten path where you have a chance to be understood, or a guide maybe.

Contact Londonboards on this forum as he was just there. He has a thread about the trip here somewhere. Lots of great pic's too!

A little off the beaten path will make it less likely for you to be understood unless you speak Italian. Nevertheless, here are some places you should consider:

      Cinqueterre
      Tivoli
      Civita di Bagnoregio

You should still consider a few of the staples, including Venice and Florence. They are worth it. Rome is amazing, but it is a tourist trap and thieve's den in the extreme.

Procida if you want to travel outward from the coast, and this would let you experience the beauty and squalor of Napoli

        Italia!

I lived in northern Italy in Sacile while working on Aviano Air Base and traveled to the following places:

        Sacile (The little Venice)
        Trieste (Close to Slovenia)
Lago di Barcis (Lake near Maniago)
        Lago di Croce (Another Lake)
        Lido di Jesolo (The Beach!)
        Lignano (Another Beach)
        Verona (Romeo & Juliet)
Venice (Lots of places to eat...St. Marcus Square)
        Rome (Colosseum)
Pisa (Very small town..you'll be done rather quickly)
Cinque Terre (5 Towns - ready for hiking...or take a train)
        Florence (very quaint)

You're gonna have to learn some Italian...you're an Ambassador so represent your country well!

EDIT: If you feel adventurous...well, nevermind. I almost let the cat out of the bag.

Well it is a start I guess, I don't mind too much being adventurous.

Really looking for more in depth information. We expect to spend a week or two there and will see the usual. Looking for the hidden gems.
