View Full Version : Thanks again for your financial support! SSL upgrade!

I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my recent financial appeal. The response was over the top and we are now set financially for the rest of the year. So thanks again!!!

For an slight upgrade to the website I will be adding a SSL license to the site which will give us an https:// address versus a simple http:// one. This will encrypt all data going to and from the website, from your browser. We don't really have any secret info being passed back and forth other then passwords, but it will increase our and your level of security. Now there might be some glitches when that kicks in, particularly with this forum. I'll try keeping an eye out for it but I won't really know when it will actually kick in. In any case, I may have to make some code tweaks but I just want to mention it ahead of time.

The SSL update has been completed. You will be automatically redirected from any http:// addresses to https://. You may have to update any bookmarks to the website but probably not. Things seem to be working on my end.

Chrome is going to start warning on all non-ssl sites in June, so good timing! For those looking for cheap SSL certificates I recommend ssls.com where you can get a Comodo PositiveSSL certificate for <$3\year, which is what Frank bought, although not the exact one.

As a professional, I recommend against anything SSL in relation with Comodo, or Symantec.

Unless you're big enough to have your own Sub-CA trusted or have a specific need for wildcard certs, I do recommend using letsencrypt.
Doesn't cost a dime, and was engineered by the people behind Firefox (some Googlers helped as well, if I'm not mistaken).

Setup is a bit more involved though.

That aside, now lets hope Google indexes the forum again. Was trying to search for some stuff recently, but Google had flushed its brain from all GSR forum content (The integrated forum search wasn't very helpful).

Not long after I donated in early Feb, 2018...this post was drafted.

I believe we will meet the requirements for 2019 outlined by Frank.
