    Choices , choices...

Recently 2 GS850G's have come up for sale near me...

Both asking about $800 (seems reasonable to me?)

Windjammer fairings on each one -
Vetter trunk on one - luggage rack on the other -

    1980 --- Black
    1981 -- Blue

Any reason one might be better than the other just based on production year --?
Both seem in decent shape - I have not personally visited either one --(yet) --

Not even sure I want to buy one -- but I DO like them...

Just making conversation about motorcycles -- but I might go buy them both and sell in spring.

    Anyone looking for a GS850G .. ?

    1983 Suzuki GS850 GL Blue & Black

Buy to ride? Go for it! Buy to sell, forget it, no money to be made, ask me how I know

Edit: Forgot to add, they are the same bikes, no changes other than colors

Yep, no differences I can think of -- it's all about condition.

That said, sometimes a bike listed as an '81 is really an '82. Suzuki started making the next years' models in July or August (and presumably still does), so it's quite common to find an '82 titled and registered as an '81 because someone bought it in the fall.

And sometimes you find the opposite if a bike was an unloved leftover that sat on the showroom floor for a year or more before being adopted. At the time, I think the GL outsold the G by a wide margin. Nowadays, the G is more in demand.

Well, maybe "demand" isn't the right word. The GS850 market is not exactly blazing. But you know what I mean.

The '82 model has the same engine displacement, but virtually every thing has changed, making it instantly recognizable.

If the gas tanks on the two look the same, they would, indeed, be '80 and '81. About the only difference there is that the '80 has round turn signals, the '81 has rectangular.

          There you have it Carl.
Others have said everything I was going to say.

Was a lot design changes from 79 to 80, and some from 81 to 82.

One note about the 80 that is black: I have noticed that the maroon (called red in fische) was much more prominent that year. If that effects your opinion one way or the other.

            I did nothing -
One is off the market at $725 (Blue 81) and the other is still waiting --
I will dedicate my time energy & money towards getting my 83 'L" really riding great instead .

One other thing for you to consider, if you are interested in another 850: The custom seat that you have had made will only fit an '82 or '83 850L.
