    Bigger Rear wheel/Tire on 1000 G model???

    Hello,
I would like to increase the size of my tire on my 1979 GS 1000 G. As it is a shafty, is it possible? How to proceed?
    Thanks

If yours is a standard GS1000G, then you already have a 17-inch rear wheel. If yours is the "L" model, your rear wheel is a 16-incher. The 17-incher is the largest-diameter wheel that goes on shafties. No way you can increase the wheel diameter or width.

There actually is one way to widen your rim, but the shaftdrive swingarm will not allow much wider tires (unless you open it up at the contact point -very iffy proposition). There are shops that will cut your rim on both sides and reweld in widening pieces. Performance Machining may be one of the places, but I'm not sure. They are very precise and safe from what I've heard, but also expensive.
