    great road in Western MA

I accompanied my best friend (who gave me my GS650G last Christmas so he could upgrade) on the first leg of his cross-country ride yesterday. About 2 hours from Boston, just west of Charlemont, there is an amazing stretch of Rt. 2 that climbs into the Berkshire mountains and then back down again. Great pavement, curves (including a spectacular hairpin), and expansive views. If you are even more adventurous, just before Rt 2 West starts climbing the mountains there is a narrow road off to the right that follows a wild river gorge towards Vermont. Turn at the "Pilgrim Nuclear Plant Visitor Center" sign, the road twists and turns for over 9 miles before reaching the plant. A few miles in stop and check out at the railway tunnel through the mountains to NY that was once the longest in the US.
