    Permatex work gloves

For about 5 bucks you can get a pair of rubberized blue work gloves by Permatex. These are a cheap variant of Mechanix Gloves and are pretty handy.

What are they good for? Keeping your hands clean and cut free. I am in the middle of pulling a gearbox out of a VW Golf and I did not have to remove these gloves once to undo anything. It is definately worth keeping these things in the back of your bike for any maintenance issues you may run into out on the road. They'll keep your hands clean so that you don't soil the insides of your riding gloves before you get a chance to wash your hands.

What are they not good for? Changing engine oil and filters. They soak up oil through the open backs and the heat of the oil filter is still uncofmortable through the gloves. Once the rubber gets covered in oil or fresh grease the "stickiness" of the material is gone and you have less grip than a dog running on a skating rink.
