    Crawford Co, WI

I'd like to suggest this area to those who can reach it. I've been helping my FIL (Father-in-Law) build a cabin in Crawford Co. for the last year. And in this time I've been able to explore a great deal of the roads. While WI 35 is also in Crawford (Great River Road), I'd suggest getting off that overly beaten path and heading inland. While there are some great state highways (WI 27, 133, and 171), I'd suggest hitting some of the county roads. Especially Co. H, U, C, and W.

Another great draw is in the fall at Gays Mills (Wisconsin's Apple Country) for hitting the Orchards. While WI 171 (the main road for the orchards) is extremely busy, it can make for a nice leisurely cruise on some decent twisty roads.

Crawford County also incorporates Prairie du Chien which is home to a small Cabela's and also has a few casinos on the Iowa side of the river.

I think the best thing about this area is that you can travel at any pace and be assured that you're going to be travelling on open roads that are relatively absent of traffic. And while it offers some nice technical riding, it also is very scenic. But I'm biased.

    Truly some beautiful scenery.
http://www.wisconsinmotorcycling.com/ also has some suggested routes and maps of the area.

I allways wanted to plan a trip to WI that spelled something. Useing all of the country roads. H-E-L-U-V-A T-I-M-E. Something like that.

So far I've been on F-U-C but have yet to find if there's a County K anywhere nearby.

The instructor of my motorcycle course was talking about the various places to go riding. His favorite is down near the Dells, or up into Door County, by Sturgeon Bay. Myself, I can't wait to get out and ride anyplace. LOL

Really, anywhere in south western WI is pretty. My only bias for Crawford is that my wife has family up there and I've been riding the bike quite a bit over the last year in that area. Once my FIL and I are done with this cabin, I can start exploring more of the area.\\/

And as for K in Green Co., I'd like to ride a few other roads. Some good twisties in that area, though I'd suggest avoiding N. Some crazy road engineer or farmer decided it'd be a good idea to just take a road straight across the countryside. Unfortunately the road is more like a Rollercoaster and has enough steep hills that you'd literally launch off the top if you went too fast (posted at 40/45 if I remember right).

I would go nuts living in WI were it not for the very roads you're talking about. Do not forget 131 from Steuben to Wauzeka...........and that little stretch of 60 between Muskoda and Gotham that follows the north side of the river...........and.................you know all of 'em too.

I'm gonna have to get a video of riding that road sometime. If Wheelie Hill is the one I remember from BC, this road puts it to shame. Think Wheelie Hill followed by Wheelie Hill followed by Wheelie Hill etc. Get the picture? And I also think that there's a house along the road that used the front end of a GS for a mailbox!

Shoot! Now I'm gonna have to ride over there this weekend.:-D

That's the plan!:-D The trouble I'm having is deciding which roads to take.

I've yet to find a "K" in Crawford, but I did find some excellent roads today. County C between WI 27 and 35 (Great River Road) is great. It's been repaved (currently missing center stripes) and WI 179 from Eastman to Steuben. I've also got a video of my trip on County H. I'm hoping to have it available soon.:-D
