It's looking fairly promising that I'll be able to head out there this year. Hoping to ride out to Atlanta first and stop in Bedford on the way home. Sure would be nice to take my GK. I outta have enough time to get it ready, but if not I'm sure the 850 could use the exercise.

Wow, I actually have plans in and reservations coming together for my ride out to that neck of the woods this year!

I will likely just over night for 1 night, maybe 2. The sure fire plan would be to arrive sometime on the 19th, hang with you guys in the evening, crash then depart either first thing on Friday the 20th or stay for a day for some leisure riding and leave first thing on the 21st. My next stop would be Fond du Lac Wisconsin, than I'm off to the northernmost point of the Contiguous US - Angle Inlet MN via rural Canada.

Anyway... I'll keep an eye out for the email.

    Thanks!

I'll be starting to work out the rooming list over the next few weeks, folks; keep your eyes peeled for an email from me.

    Rodney,
I just met you a last year's rally. I wouldn't have ridden with you then, and I probably wouldn't now. But that's me. I just prefer an easier pace. That's what's great about the rally. You can ride with whatever group you choose, or alone. Please don't misunderstand me, I found both you and Mary to be terrific company in the parking lot. And, to me, that's at least as important as the ride. So, IMHO, if you and Dale are good, welcome back.

Putting this out there, but I'm apprehensive to say the least...

After talking with Mary, Dale, Robin and a few other confidants, I finally bought a replacement bike last fall. I've been riding a lot, because I know my skills were lacking last spring. I'm torn on this one. I'm really interested in seeing everyone again, but I'm afraid. I'm not afraid of the bike or the roads. I rode with Robin last fall in Wisconsin and had a great time back in the saddle.

I'm afraid of what attending will mean for others. Will they be uncomfortable with me there? Are my skills in question now that I've had my mishaps? Will anyone want to ride with me, and will I trust myself enough to ride in a group again since, in my twenty+ years of riding, all of my mishaps have happened at these events? The friends I've made through this hobby have been priceless to me, but I don't want anyone to be looking over their shoulders or wondering about me and my abilities

Dale has been a champ, and has been far more forgiving to me than I feel I deserve. Consider this my confession. Sorry for the thread hijack! Keep the shiny side up, y'all.

What is this, cars and coffee? For one thing, Brett, it's not your bikes that constrain your ability to fit in. For another, I make an effort every year to set the bar low enough for everyone's bikes, so ride whatever you think will be fun. Either way, it'll be good to have you back.

Rich asked how I'm doing. I'm out of my mind. I'm thinking about swapping on a tank that isn't dented, and the paint coverage is nearly complete. I'm pretty sure the fuel gage works on that tank, so....

That reminds me. I still need to straighten(ish) all the luggage bracketry, swap on the correct new bars (GP Touring, not Euro bend), and install the NOS tach I found on eBay. I missed having a tach. I don't think I have the strength yet to wrestle those brackets into shape, but by the time the weather warms up, I should be working with a couple hundred pounds in the gym. Straightening brackets is all ratchet straps and hammers anyway.

The bike and I are coming around. Most importantly, I still have enough flexibility to wipe, though I'm glad I installed the bidet during COVID. The bike is rideable, but not quite right. I had to ride it to an inspection with the OH troopers back in Nov. to get the salvage title done. That was amazingly therapeutic. I love that thing. It was the first seat I could sit on without discomfort after the accident. Wendy wouldn't let me bring it in the house. I should have offered to drain the oil. I'm sure it was the potential for drips on the carpet that got in the way.

This'd be my first time attending this event. Is there anything specific I should bring or plan for?

Bring a reliable bike, a couple hundred in cash (little cafes and shops in southern Indiana often don't do credit), and be prepared to ride a lot in the daytime and talk a lot in the evenings.

    That's about it.

    On the Radar!
I will be heading out that way this year for a 2 week tour, finishing off in Harvard IL the weekend of 27th. Be Back in Vermont by July 1. Planning to come down through Canada this year through Minnesota and Wisconsin. Never been but heard it's great riding. I haven't left the state in years and the last time was only a long weekend ( with Rich82GS750TZ and Eli69 ). Little one makes it hard.
May only be able to stop in for a day or 2 but I'll know more as I start to finalize my journey.
It would be great to see you all!
