    GS1000 tank striping

I'm going to be repainting my `78 C model tank and tailpiece base/clear black this winter. I want to order the striping kit but....my tank has *red* pinstripes as well as the gold. Any pics I've seen of the mag wheeled E models have the red striping. But the few pics I've seen of the (red or blue) C model only show the gold stripes around the main tank stripe.
In fact, the tail piece on my bike only has the gold pinstripe, no red. And one more point..the E model has the red stripe along the plastic trim along the underside of the seat, my bike doesn't

It makes me wonder..Do I have an E model tank on my bike?

Does anyone have a picture of a stock black `78 **C** model tank I can refer to?

There is no black "C = wire wheel" model

Wire wheel bikes came in dark red or dark blue, with a red or blue side strip and gold pinstriping

E model (cast wheels) came in black with the white side stripe, gold and red pinstriping

So it sound like you bike has the wrong gas tank and/or has been repainted

Why don't you post up some pictures?

Okay, I notice you have a picture - appears to be an "E" tank with repainted seat trim and tail

Guys....i want to thank you for the compliments. Its always nice to have your bike recognized as worthy by your peers.

I want to repaint it base coat clear in black then add the white stripe with the gold/red/ pinstriping to the tank and tailpiece but NOT the trim under the seat. I can get the stripe kit for $89 US from Reproduction Decals in the States.
I just want to eliminate all the "touched up" paint chips as well as a toonie sized dent over the right side Suzuki logo on the tank. Then take the front fender in to a metal refinishing shop I've dealt with before to get the few dings out of it and then have that rechromed. That will be all I do with this bike.

I have another bike that the owner has agreed to sell me....a COMPLETE `78 GS1000 "E" model thats been stored the last 16 years.
This bike I want to do a complete nut and bolt restoration on.
