GS750ES : Engine enamel paint

My understanding so far was that to achieve high quality pain job you need to mix paint, diluter and hardener and apply them with a compressor and a spray gun.
Since spray cans could not combine a hardener, they provided painting that was a compromise as far as durability is concerned.
Lately (so I heard) ?enamel paints? that come from spray cans provide better heat resistance and better long term durability since they contain a built in hardener that hardens the paint when it comes to contact with air?

1. Is the description above correct? Are we in the dawn of an age where a person with a spray can is able to reach a professional level of paint job ?
2. Can you recommend a high quality enamel paint for the GS750ES motor that comes in 1 litter cans and can be shipped overseas ?
3. Must I strip down the old paint ? It seems to be very strong with no signs of peeling whatsoever, even after 30 years.

The worst part about painting aluminum is paint doesn't stick well unless you do some prep work like sand blasting and use adhesion promoters. But out of all the rattle can paints i have used over the years on various car engines and aluminum intake manifolds, vht brand paint has the best aluminum adhesion i have seen. But the key point to any paint job and paint used is the prep work you put in before you spray

I've been happy with the high temp paint from Rustoleum, in either aluminum or black. I think it holds up pretty good.
