As long as you've cleaned them as thoroughly as you can and have blown compressed air through all the passages I wouldn't worry about it.

Guest repliedHey all I am waiting for tons of OEM parts to come and it got me thinking more about the finish of my carbs I was talking about earlier, here is the explanation of what happened to them. They feel like the are literally carved out of stone.
Originally posted by hjfisk View PostI have had Berrymens do that to carbs also, on a couple of occasions. I am not sure why but it seams to happen to the carb bodies that are thicker at the throat areas. Alot of 70's carbs, I always figured Mikuni had made the carbs from an alloy and there was a chemical reaction. Also noticed it happens more frequently with Berrymens that has been used a few times. It will leave a blackish dusty film on the carbs after a good dip. For the most part I just wash them real well with hot soapy water after the dip and then blow them out clean. I am not sure of the cause but have seen it a few times.
Since I spent good money on OEM parts to fix my leak, I don't want it all to be a waste of time since the metal got all weird. Basically I was wondering if I should refinish the inside of the bowls or the carbs themselves. I tried to do some research, but couldn't find much other than this:
Let me know if I am just overreacting and should just forget about it, thanks!

Hahahahaa it's the kangaroo's and dingoes... they're on there every day
Nah they just don't put enough trains on in peak hour here so it gets to be standing room only... and there are too many people who don't understand the concept of personal hygiene... then there's the people who ride their bicycle to the train and shower when they get to work so they get on the train smelling like... well I'm sure you get the point.. haha

I need to get my dream Kat and I'll be set
How is the train cramped I thought like 2 people lived in Australia... why does it smell? Do the marsupials ride along too?
One day... thanks everyone for the help I am gonna do some fixin' and see what happens.

Guest repliedOriginally posted by pete View PostHaha yeah I'm the same, can't stomach the thought of the train anymore... one day off when my Dyna died was enough for me, don't want to have that happen again!
Edit: Just means we should probably have a second GS to back us up right?
Now wouldn't that be nice, assemble a whole fleet!

Guest repliedOriginally posted by pete View PostNot sure which sealant to use, I guess just read carefully and don't use it unless it says petrol and ethanol safe...
I am so excited to get back on my bike and ride again, it's my DD, so I feel like a deadbeat bummin' rides and cars and stuff.

You could always give the fuel proof sealant a go just to prove your theory while you wait for an OEM one... and this is probably one case where buying a second hand one may not be the best solution either...
So should I go with Permatex Form-A-Gasket No. 3?I am prolly gonna do exactly that just seal it up see what happens and wait on a new OEM one, gotta pay to get it done right!Last edited by Guest; 10-05-2012, 04:12 PM.

Guest repliedOriginally posted by azr View PostYou know you can just put a dab of fuel resistant gasket maker on those fuel T's, put them in place, bolt the carbs together to keep them in place and Bob's your uncle no more leaks. Although, you did have a ton of fuel leaking out, not your average drip. If you believe all that fuel was pouring out from the fuel T's there must be a problem in there, more than just loose T's which is normal for old carbs. But I doubt it's your fuel T, it was just far too much fuel.
I think it's a mixture of everything at once.
Thanks gs450sjip those are WAY cheaper I am gonna hold off on the valve seats and stuff for now because I don't think that is my issue.
I am having the hardest time locating a stupid fuel tee, mine is ~49mm long and I can't find any aluminum/o-ring type ones in a length near mine, such a bummer.
