    How to Determine Igntion Type

    Hey Guys-

I'm helping a friend work on a 1981 GS550T. The bike already had a Dyna Ignition installed. It has a control box that says Dyna 3. The system is no good. We would like to replace it with the Dyna DS3-2 and Dyna Coils, which I believe is the correct ignition for this bike. The only thing that gives me pause, since the original ignition plate wasn't present I cant tell if it was KD or ND style plate. Is there another way to tell this?

    Thanks,
    Josh

The bike, appears to currently have this ignition. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I thought the Dyna 3 ignition wouldnt work at all in these bikes? Why was it there anyway?

Please someone help me understand this stuff.

Maybe take pic of your actual dyna setup and someone can tell you....
Dyna made lots of these for different fours by honda, kawasaki, suzuki so you need to get right model

here's the link to model for ND ignition.Note the mention/link to the KD ignition version
