Looking to upgrade to a Dyna S system, but my signal generator doesn't have a stamp

Exactly that. I don't see a stamp anywhere that says ND or KD.
My regulator/rectifier says Kokusan Denki, is it a safe bet to assume my signal generator is the same make?

Assumption is the mother of all screw-ups.
As far as I know every zuk that left the factory had a kit of ND or KD electronics, and they weren't mixed on the production line.
      However...
You don't know whether some PO replaced the reg-rec that might have matched the ignitor.
There's still a chance you might be right.

Your profile shows 1980 GS550E. That model came from the factory with an electronic ignition. If you enter the year and model on the Dynatek web page it only shows ND for 1980. The 78-79 models could have either. Hope this helps. Dar

When in doubt call Dynatech. 1-800-928-3962. As said before they only list ND for your bike, so you want to order the DS3-2.

My title lists it as a 1980. The manufacturer plate on the frame says 11/79. Doesn't the model year for the next year start midway through the previous year?

I thought so. Would that make it an early model or late model for 1979 or 1980?

                      k. I saw a wiring diagram that was titled "early model," so I was unsure.
