hey my name is Lucas and im a newby.i buy a 1985 gs700es from a friend for 150. and the alternator is no working. so do you guys know where it is?? cuz on my dad goldwing you have to take the tranny plate off.

Be sure to check out the stator pages on this site and test the regulator/rectifier before you buy a new alternator. I replaced my alternator, then the next day I got to throw a second $150 into a new r/r.

Facing the front of the bike it's on the left side of the motor bolted inside the engine cover which is #13 on the second picture.Comment

Another bit of my "experience"...if you do end up replacing the alternator, be sure to use good, perfectly fitting screwdrivers. The alternator is not hard to get to, but my job time tripled when I stripped out one screw. I spent twice as much time on that one screw as I did on the whole rest of the job.Comment
